This is me
Hi. My name is Annie. I'm a half-Vietnamese/half-Chinese geeky girl from Hawai`i. Although I was born and raised here, my first language was Vietnamese. I didn't learn English until I was four. Since then, I've taken Japanese and German but can't say I speak them very well. I've been into art for as long as I can remember and am currently working on a BFA in Graphic Design. I am also considering double majoring in print making. I used to be, and still might be, interested in pursuing a design career with a firm or agency of some sort but lately have a stronger desire to work with non-profit/independent organizations. Of course, I'd eventually want my own firm.When I'm not staying up eight days a week to complete assignments, I work at my university's marketing and design office. For a year and a half, I was involved with my university's radio station but quit due to time constraints. Downtime is something I rarely have but enjoy greatly. I usually spend it reading, day dreaming, getting things done, spacing out to some music, getting myself into some mischief. I am currently in the UK on study abroad and thus all developments on Maladroit are on hold. Contact

About Maladroit.com
Maladroit.com was born on May 17th, 2002, although I had been blogging since 2000. This domain was purchased because I needed a place to store all my pages. Over time, it turned into a personal page with a blog. Due to my busy schedule and a loss of interest, nearly all my pages are now gone. Thereafter, Maladroit.com was inactive for three years. It is finally making a return this year, 2007. Maladroit.com also now has a logo, a cassette tape with leaves.Why the name "maladroit"? I don't know if anyone remembers but 2002 was the year that Weezer's "Maladroit" was released. At the time, I was a huge fan. After looking up the word, I fell more in love with it. I also liked that it sounded quirky and thought that it suited someone as geeky as I. For those of you who aren't keen on what it is, here's M-W's definition: mal-adroit Although I'm not that negative or as much of a Weezer fan now, the name is just too classic to let go of. Current Layout
The current layout is, what I like to think, a big departure from what I usually do. I wanted to do a layout that was entirely me. Usually I create vectors based off photos but this time, it's entirely from my noggin. In 2004, when I had first begun the epic journey to redo Maladroit, I had gotten into Russian Constructivism and Avant Garde art. I would spend weekends at libraries, trying to dig up stuff on this art form. It intrigued me and I loved that I could draw parallels between it and contemporary graphic design. Sadly my research never fabricated any good layout, so I explored other areas - Japanese patterned paper, CMYK coated dreams, Paisley Beck guero, stop motion flash animation, etc...Nothing was working out. Eventually, I decided to rid myself of the pressure and just freely design something. As a result, I got this technicolor rehash of all my drafts. By the way, the dolls talk! Hover over them! |
